New patient lab panel

One draw. More than 40 values. The full picture before any decisions.

A typical annual physical checks a handful of numbers and calls the rest “normal.” Your Venture Wellness evaluation starts with a panel built to explain how you feel: sex hormones, thyroid, adrenal function, metabolism, inflammation, iron, and key vitamins, read together by your provider.

The Performance & Longevity Evaluation is the first step for hormone, weight, and longevity care. Direct Primary Care members enroll online instead.

The panel, at a glance

What it is
More than 40 individual lab values across seven body systems, drawn once before your evaluation. Several of the orders are panels in their own right: a complete blood count alone reports ten values, and the metabolic panel fourteen
Preparation
Fast for 8 to 12 hours before your draw. Water is fine. We’ll confirm this when you schedule and again at check-in
Where
Drawn at our office, 2342 Colony Crossing Place, Midlothian, VA 23112. Book your evaluation at least 7 business days after your draw so results are back
Cost
$195 self-pay (our wholesale rate, no markup), or billed to your insurance by the lab. Read this before choosing insurance
Already have recent labs?
Bring them. We use what’s current and order only what’s missing
What we test and why

What the panel covers

No single number tells the story. Each group answers a different question, and your provider reads them together. Your exact order is built from this panel and your history.

Sex hormones

Is it hormones? This group answers that directly.

  • Testosterone as both total and free, because how much you make and how much your body can use are different numbers
  • Estrogen and progesterone, the pair that shifts first in perimenopause
  • The brain signals and the binding protein that decide whether a “normal” level is actually working for you
  • Adrenal precursors that feed hormone production and fall with age

Thyroid

Fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, and cold intolerance often start here.

  • A full thyroid set, not the single screening test most physicals stop at
  • Includes the active form your cells use. A normal screening result with a low active level is a pattern that gets missed when only one test is run

Stress and adrenal

Stress shows up in the blood.

  • Your main stress hormone. Too high or too low affects sleep, weight, energy, and how well hormone therapy works

Metabolic health

Weight resistance and energy crashes usually show up here first.

  • Fasting insulin, which rises years before blood sugar does
  • Your three-month average blood sugar
  • A fourteen-value metabolic panel: blood sugar, kidney function, liver enzymes, electrolytes, and protein
  • A mineral involved in sleep, muscle function, and blood sugar control, and commonly low

Heart and inflammation

Risk markers that predict better than standard cholesterol alone.

  • A particle-count cholesterol marker that is more precise than LDL
  • A sensitive inflammation marker, a driver of both heart disease and stubborn symptoms

Blood, iron, and vitamins

Fatigue and hair loss are often nutrient problems, not hormone problems.

  • A complete blood count: ten values covering red cells, white cells, and platelets
  • Full iron studies, including stored iron, which can be low long before anemia shows and is tied to hair shedding and fatigue
  • The vitamins tied to energy, nerves, memory, mood, immunity, and hormone production
Why this many

“Normal” is a range built for the average person. You are not the average person.

Standard reference ranges mark disease, not optimal function. A testosterone level at the bottom of the range is “normal” on paper and miserable in real life. A thyroid screening test in range with a low active thyroid level is “normal” and still exhausting. Checking the full set is how we see the pattern instead of a single value, and how we avoid treating a hormone problem that is really an iron, thyroid, or insulin problem.

Your provider goes through your results with you at your evaluation and tells you which numbers matter for you and which don’t.

How the draw works

  1. Book your evaluation. Your lab order is sent when you book
  2. Come in fasting (8 to 12 hours, water only) for a 15-minute draw at our office
  3. Results return to your provider before your visit
  4. Your evaluation, at least 7 business days after the draw, reviews everything with you

Some programs add markers to this panel based on your history. Your provider will tell you if that applies to you.

Lab panel FAQ

Do I have to fast?

Yes: 8 to 12 hours with nothing but water. Insulin, blood sugar, and several other markers are only meaningful fasting. Morning draws make this easiest.

Can I use labs my other doctor already ran?

Yes. Bring them or have them sent. We use any recent results and order only the markers that are missing, which also lowers your cost.

Why is the self-pay price so much lower than through insurance?

$195 is our wholesale rate with the laboratory, passed through without markup. When the lab bills insurance it uses retail rates set by the lab and your insurer, which is why the same panel can run $1,500 to $3,000. More on choosing between the two.

Will I get a copy of my results?

Yes. Results are posted to your patient portal, and your provider reviews each one with you at your evaluation.
