The basics

What “bioidentical” means.

Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to what your body produces: estradiol, progesterone, and in some cases testosterone. Traditional hormone replacement therapy has historically used synthetic or animal-derived versions.

At Venture Wellness we use bioidentical formulations and match the delivery method to your labs, symptoms, and history. We offer injections, patches, oral forms, creams, and a vaginal ring. We do not offer pellets or troches. When hormones are used, they are prescribed thoughtfully, monitored closely, and adjusted based on symptoms, not just lab numbers.

What BHRT is, and what it isn’t

  • It is a medical treatment that begins with a full evaluation and comprehensive labs
  • It is individualized, staged, and rechecked along the way
  • It isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution or a standard protocol
  • It isn’t about chasing perfection or suppressing symptoms. It’s about restoring balance, resilience, and quality of life
Who it helps

Different hormones, different stages of life.

Hormone signaling is different in women and men, so the care is too. Choose the page that fits you.

Women

Perimenopause & menopause

Sleep disruption, night sweats, hot flashes, mood changes, brain fog, weight changes, and low libido. Hormone shifts often begin years before periods stop.

Women

Complex hormonal changes

PCOS and PMDD support, fertility evaluation and planning, fourth-trimester (postpartum) hormone support, and testosterone and androgen balance for women.

Men

Low testosterone

Fatigue that doesn’t respond to sleep, strength that’s harder to keep, low drive, and brain fog, evaluated with free and total testosterone, estrogen balance, thyroid, and metabolic function.

How we prescribe it

Why a staged approach matters.

Hormone signaling, receptor responsiveness, metabolism, and tissue response all occur on different timelines. Introducing support too quickly, or focusing on a single hormone without context, can lead to incomplete results or unwanted side effects.

Hormones also don’t act alone. Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid signaling, and stress hormones influence one another, which is why we evaluate them together and give your body time to stabilize before optimizing.

The Venture Wellness Care Framework

  1. Stabilize: comprehensive labs, intake, and symptom mapping
  2. Optimize: a personalized protocol guided by your data
  3. Maintain: quarterly monitoring to protect your progress
  4. Evolve: a long-term strategy that adapts as your body changes

A staged approach supports safer initiation, better symptom resolution, and more sustainable long-term outcomes.

Getting started

Start with a clear picture, before any treatment decisions.

Your new patient evaluation includes a detailed intake, a medical history review, and comprehensive lab work. We go through your personal and family history together and discuss what the current evidence supports. You leave with clarity, not a follow-up to schedule a follow-up.

What BHRT costs

  • New patient evaluation: $155
  • Comprehensive lab panel: billed to your insurance by the lab, or $195 self-pay
  • Ongoing care: quarterly, starting as low as $160 a month. Your plan and its cost are reviewed with you before you continue

All care is individualized and provided by a licensed medical provider. Results vary based on individual factors.

Questions

Bioidentical hormone therapy FAQ

What is the difference between bioidentical hormones and traditional HRT?

Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to what your body produces: estradiol, progesterone, and in some cases testosterone. Traditional HRT has historically used synthetic or animal-derived versions. We use bioidentical formulations and match the delivery method to your labs, symptoms, and history.

What forms of bioidentical hormones do you offer?

We offer injections, patches, oral forms, creams, and a vaginal ring, and we match the form to your labs, symptoms, history, and preferences. We do not offer hormone pellets or troches.

Is bioidentical hormone therapy safe?

Safety depends on your individual history, which is why we start with a full medical review and comprehensive labs rather than a standard protocol. We go through your personal and family history together, discuss what the current evidence supports, and monitor on an ongoing basis. For more on one common concern, see our article on bioidentical hormone therapy and breast cancer.

How long does BHRT take to work?

For women, sleep and mood often shift within the first few weeks, while energy, libido, and cognitive clarity commonly take six to twelve weeks. For men on testosterone, early improvements in energy and mood are often noticed within 3–4 weeks, with full benefits developing over 3–6 months. We monitor your labs and symptoms and fine-tune your dose as you progress. Results vary from person to person.

Do I need to be in menopause to start?

No. Many of the women we see are in perimenopause: still cycling, but dealing with sleep disruption, mood changes, or cycle irregularity. Evaluating early gives us a clearer baseline to work from.

My labs came back normal. Can BHRT still help?

Possibly. Many people are told their levels are “normal” while living with real symptoms. Normal by a lab reference range is not the same as optimal for how you function. We look at more markers, and at how they relate to each other and to your symptoms, before recommending anything.

How much does BHRT cost at Venture Wellness?

The new patient evaluation is $155. The comprehensive lab panel is billed to your insurance by the lab, or $195 self-pay. Ongoing care runs quarterly and starts as low as $160 a month. Your plan and its cost are reviewed with you before you continue.

Do I have to come to the office for every visit?

No. Once you’re an established patient, follow-up visits can be done by video. Patients come to us from Richmond, Short Pump, Glen Allen, Chesterfield, Chester, Powhatan, and further out, including Blackstone, Crewe, and Fredericksburg.
